Importance of Sound

Today is a day before the school opens after the new year, a new mod which is an add on to the game Minecraft was released by the community, it's called "Sound Physics Mod". At first I was a little bit confused about what it could be, when I looked into it, it was very interesting in that the game was an exploring sandbox game and the person who created this mod added realistic sound physics if that made any sense. It's basically making every in game sound more realistic. E.g. When in a cave every sound you hear will be echoey like you're actually in the cave. To demonstrate this I created a short video to show what a short game session will be like.

This then relates over to my film opening where I will make sure that if we happen to shoot somewhere like a long empty hallway that the echo in that scene will be a prominent and I must make sure to find a suitable sound effect for it as well.

Overall, I always thought that sound was a pretty important part of the micro elements, to see this mod was made my thoughts a lot more meaningful somehow. It just gives me an atmospheric feeling which I really love and makes me want to play this game more due to the immense amount of realism of it. Then again, this game wouldn't be as lively without the community so hopefully this game will be what Microsoft expect it to be or else they wouldn't have bought Minecraft for $2.5 billion dollar. Microsoft wanted Minecraft to be a 100 year game that will never die.
